Hazardous Waste Disposal
Hazardous waste pickup occurs every Thursday from 2:00-2:30pm at the Loading Dock for routinely generated chemical waste. Waste must be properly labeled, stored, and disposed in accordance to Federal and State regulations. https://ehs.ucla.edu/waste/management-guidelines
All items to be disposed must be registered online (https://ehs.ucla.edu/waste/services) and affixed with a WASTe tag. Call the Hazardous Waste Line at (310) 206-1887 with any questions.
Gas Cylinders
All gas cylinders arriving and departing the CNSI must be scanned and tagged at the Loading Dock, by a CNSI staff member. After gas cylinders are processed, Tenants will need to pick up their gas cylinders from the Loading Dock. Cylinders generally do not exceed 120 lbs. and can vary in size. Cylinders can be taken two at a time with a gas cylinder cart loaned out by the Loading Dock. When gas cylinders are empty, each Tenant will be responsible for returning their cylinders back to the Loading Dock where they will need to be scanned by a CNSI staff member. Due to space constraints, excess gas cylinders may not be stored in laboratories.
Liquid Nitrogen (LN2)
All liquid nitrogen tanks (LN2) arriving and departing the CNSI must be scanned and tagged at the Loading Dock, by a CNSI staff member. Due to safety concerns, required training, and the size and weight of an LN2 tank (~580 lbs.), all LN2 tanks will be delivered directly to all building laboratories by a CNSI staff member. Empty LN2 tanks will be picked up, scanned and taken to the dock, by a CNSI staff member, to be stored for vendor pick-up.
