Gradient Orthodontics works on the development of novel materials towards orthodontic clear aligners with improved treatment efficiency.

Market:

Current orthodontic aligners are mostly restricted to mild/moderate cases. Unlike traditional metal braces that can exert constant forces over days-weeks, plastic aligners lose the forces as soon as they are placed into the mouth. This phenomenon is called “stress relaxation” and often results in incomplete tooth movements requiring new aligners to be made, or conversion to metal braces.

Technology:

Gradient Orthodontics is working on the synthesis of a UV curable resin for the direct 3D printing of dental aligners. This resin will be a biocompatible material and will feature the mechanical properties and strength needed for orthodontic treatment. This advancement will allow for the Direct 3D Printing of aligners with patient-specific properties, significant stress relaxation reduction due to a controlled combination of materials within the device, and achieve significant cost reduction.

Advantages:

  • Reduces significantly plastic stress relaxation
  • Reduces manufacturing cost and time
  • Reduces environmental waste
  • Superior product at competitive price

Development Stage:

  • Pre-clinical
